About Me

I am am Instructor in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Winnipeg.  My faculty webpage can be found at: https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/criminal-justice/faculty-staff/sarah-heath.html

I have a PhD in Program Evaluation from the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. I also hold an M.A. in Criminology and a B.Soc.Sci in Criminology (Honours) and Psychology from the University of Ottawa.

I am a recipient of an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) (2018-2019), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Joseph-Bombardier Doctoral Canadian Graduate Scholarship (2013-2015) and the Millennium Foundation National Excellence Award (2003-2006).

As a Research Assistant for the Centre for Research on Educational and Community Services (CRECS) I was fortunate to work with an excellent research team and multiple health, education and social justice agencies on evaluation contracts and research projects. Prior to this position, I had the opportunity to collaborate with both academics and community partners while managing a 7-year SSHRC funded partnership project at the University of Ottawa.

My teaching experience has also allowed me to engage with students on the topics of curriculum design, quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods research and social policy at the undergraduate, graduate and certificate levels. My desire to pursue graduate studies and work in academia is fueled by these teaching experiences. I thoroughly enjoy seeing students excel through challenging coursework, particularly in quantitative research methods, and assisting them with their understanding and development.

My previous experience in the Federal government of Canada has also shaped my path to academia. I have held positions as an Evaluation Officer, Case Management Expert and Analyst at the Correctional Service of Canada, Department of Justice and Public Safety Canada.

Outside of my professional life, I am an outdoor sports enthusiast and an avid fiction reader and film buff. On a Saturday morning I can be found hiking in the Gatineau Park with my partner, dog and an extra-large coffee.

I am open to research collaborations and enjoy being part of multidisciplinary research and evaluation teams.

I am happy to speak at greater length about my experience and my work. I can be reached at S.heath (at) uwinnipeg.ca.
